Hyderabad, August 10, 2007The plans of the State Government to acquire nearly 2,110 acres of land for the expansion of the Visakhapatnam Special Economic Zone (VSEZ) suffered set back as the land owners refused to accept the and rates fixed by the Industries Department. They have proposed to acquire land at Tantadi in Atchutapuam mandal and Z Chintua, Lalamkoduru, Pudi, Gorapudi and Krishnapalem villages in Rambilli Mandal in the district. The said land was taken for their proposed Petroleum, Chemical and Petrochemical Investment Region.
The Cabinet Sub-committee that was constituted to look into the pricing issue, initially recommended Rs.2.75 lakhs per acre and later enhanced it by Rs.20,000 per acre which was agreed by the Government in the month of April.
The District Administration held negotiations with farmers at the District Level Negotiation Committee for fixation of compensation payable for the land under acquisition so s to pass the consent award for these lands, the land owners did not agree to the package and the mater was referred to the State Level Negotiation Committee that enhanced the compensation by ten percent.
