Says the Government is moved by the incident
Hyderabad, August 6, 2007
The Chief Minister Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy who was severally upset over the Botlagudur borewell incident that claimed the life of a six year boy, directed the Prakasam District Administration to impose a fine of Rs. 2 lakhs each on the contractor and borewell owner. He also directed booking of a criminal case against both under section 304A of IPC.
It may be recalled that one Kartik who accidentally fell into an open bore well three days ago came out dead after the district authorities undertook hectic activity to rescue him. Incidentally, the borewell was dug under Rural Water Supply Scheme and the contractor abandoned it as he could not strike water.
The Chief Minister reviewed the incident with the senior officials on Monday and felt the dereliction of duty on the part of the officials as instructions to seal abandoned bore wells were given a few months back. The CM directed the officials to take necessary steps to ensure that such incidents would not recur in future and warned officials of stern action if they failed to follow the instructions given by the Government. He also directed the officials to see that all abandoned open bore wells be closed and those who fails to do so have to face criminal action.
