Committee to submit its proposal to the DGP on Saturday

Hyderabad, August 30, 2007

A committee that was comprising of seven officials has begun to exercise to prepare a 'futuristic and comprehensive' draft for the creation of Anti-Terrorist Cell (ATC) to deal with terror groups. According to sources, the committee will submit its proposal to the Director General of Police (DGP) on Saturday and to the Chief Secretary, J Harinaryan on Monday. The modalities like the structure of ATC, powers and duties will be finalized at a high level meeting with the Chief Minister.

The panel consists of Additional DGP (Railways) A Shivshanker, the Intelligence Chief K Aravinda Rao, Additional DGP (Greyhounds) K Durga Prasad, Additional DGP (CID) M Ratan, City Police Commissioner Balwinder Singh, Cyberabad Commissioner of Police K Prabhakara Reddy and Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) AB Venkateswara Rao. The panel is studying the various anti-terrorist cells that are currently operational in the country including that of Mumbai and Jammu and Kashmir.

According to a top police official, the job is being taken up seriously than ever before. All the senior officers who are on the committee are well experienced and hence the ATC is expected to be contemporary and futuristic. However, the State Government may not consider the recommendations of the Anjaneya Reddy Committee report as it it considering that it has to be changed to suit the changing circumstances.
