Telangana districts sees impact; No impact in Rest of Andhra

Hyderabad, August 27, 2007

The day-long State-wide bandh call given by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to protest against the twin bomb blasts that took place in Hyderabad on Saturday evoked partial response on Monday. However, the impact of the bandh was seen more in Telangana districts which are close the State Capital compared to rest of the areas. The activists however barred emergency services like hospitals, water and power supply from the purview of the bandh.

The activists deflated tyres of the APSRTC buses five in the city and one in Siddipet, stone pelting incidents on 14 buses were reported from the twin cities. Schools, cinema halls and shops were down their shutters.

ATMs at several private and nationalized banks were closed. Nearly one hundred BJP activists including the party's national secretary N Indrasena Reddy were arrested when they raised slogans against the State Government and tried to barge into the Secretariat. In the old city, where the writ of the Majlis Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) runs, the impact was minimal with shops opening afternoon.
