LK Advani wants re-enactment of POTA

Visits blast sites; Calls on victims at hospitals

Hyderabad, August 26, 2007

The Senior BJP leader and leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha LK Advani on Sunday asked the government to re-enactment of the repealed Prevention of the Terrorism Act (POTA) in the State.

Advani visited the twin-blast sites and also called on the injured in various hospitals. He accused the UPA Government of going soft on terrorists and wanted it to come out with statements on each and every terror attack during the last three years. He reminded that the United Nations Security Council passed a resolution urging the member countries to enact special laws to tackle terrorism. He said fighting terrorism means intelligence, the ability to prevent act of terror, fight terrorists and conduct proper investigation to arrest the culprits.

He observed that the attacks occurred in the past in Jammu and Kashmir and Mumbai, now they have chosen Hyderabad as a major target for the terrorists during the last three of four years. He commented that the tragedy is really a serious one and the terrorists are not bothered about the religion of the victims. Senior leaders M Venkaiah Naidu, N Indrasena Reddy, Ch Vidyasagar Rao and others followed him.
