Chief Minister gives no assurance
Hyderabad, August 25, 2007Out of 11 tribal women who were allegedly raped by Special Police party from Vakapalli village in G Madugula mandal, 9 victims met the Chief Minister, Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy at his residence on Sunday. The victims were led by AP Mahila Samakya (CPI) state president P Padma and Visakhapatnam district secretary T Ganga Bhavani and submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister at his residence.
Speaking to media later, the women complained that the Chief Minister had hardly spent five minutes and did not give any specific assurance. The Tribal women demanded Rs.5 lakhs in ex gratia to each of the 11 victims, a government job for one family member, a pucca house, a road to their village and registration of criminal cases against the police.
Ganaga Bhavani said that the Chief Minister had disappointed them and did not utter a single word to the effect that he would take action against the police. According to a press release from CMO's office said that the Chief Minister told the tribal women that the government would take action against the police if found guilty. He informed that a probe had been ordered into the incident and report is expected in a couple of days. The women met the State Human Rights Commission Chairman Justice Subhashan Reddy and apprised him of the incident.
