Revenue Minister says remaining recommendations insignificant

Hyderabad, August 24, 2007

In the light of Left parties intensifying their land struggle, the Chief Minster, Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy at a meeting held on Friday accepted 18 more recommendations of Koneru Ranga Rao Committee on land distribution to the poor. With this the number of recommendations accepted by the State Government had gone to 104.

Speaking to media after the meeting, the Minister for Revenue, Dharmana Prasada Rao said the remaining recommendations were insignificant and unconnected with any of the demands raised by the Left Parties. He further said that that the meeting has decided to promulgate an ordinance shortly in line with the newly accepted recommendations to amend the existing laws and regularize the occupation of assigned lands by the poor. However, the Government has not accepted the demand of constituting a land commission.
