Digvijay Singh invites BV Raghavulu for talks on land struggle
Says Government is committed to distribute lands for the poor
Hyderabad, August 22, 2007
The General Secretary of All India Congress Committee, Digvijay Singh invited the CPI(M) State Secretary, BV Raghavulu for a fresh round of talks on the issue of land struggles. In a letter addressed to the State Secretary that was released on Tuesday, Digvijay Singh said though he could talk to the CPI leadership in this regard, there was a communication gap with that of CPI(M). It is said that Digvijay Singh has also written a letter to the Chief Minister, Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy to give his comments on the issue.
He said in his letter that the Government is willing to implement almost all the recommendations of Koneru Ranga Rao Commission and added that the common objective is to provide shelter to all the homeless in the State before April 2009.
On the Mudigonda incident, Digvijay said the the incident is unfortunate and the Government had benevolently announced Rs. 5 lakhs to the victim's families and arranged for Rs. 1 lakh more through private donors. He further said that two acres of dry land or one acre of wet land to the families of the deceased in addition to a job to one person from each of the seven families apart from a pucca house. He urged BV Raghavulu to come forward for talks for an amicable settlement.
