Bomb scare at Nampally criminal court

Police steps into action; Finds the call to be a hoax

Hyderabad, August 22, 2007

The proceedings at the Nampally court were disrupted for about three hours following an anonymous telephone call that said that a bomb has been planted at several places on the four storied complex.

According to sources, the call was received by the staff present at the residences of the Three Additional chief Metropolitan Magistrates at Marredpally around 9.20. The caller told them that the explosives were planted and that they would go off at any moment. The staff immediately alerted the Nampalli police who rushed to the spot along with a 15-member bomb disposal squad from the City Security Wing.

All those present inside the premises including magistrates and advocates were evacuated and a search was conducted for nearly three hours and finally confirmed that the call was a hoax. It may be recalled a similar call was made on July 18. The police traced the call to be originated from a public telephone booth at Putlibowli.
