Hyderabad, August 19, 2007After a gap of 19 months, the State of Andhra Pradesh will have a full-time Governor with the appointment of ND Tiwari to the post. It is likely that he will assume charge as Governor of Andhra Pradesh in a couple of days. Till now, the Governor of Orrissa Rameshwar Thakur is holding additional charge of the State since January 2006.
It may be recalled that the Andhra Pradesh Governor post fell vacant following the induction of the then Governor Sushil Kumar Shinde into the Union Cabinet. 82-year old ND Tiwari was the Chief Minister of Uttaranchal from 2002 till early this year. He is a Postgraduate from Allahabad University and also a law graduate.
He served as the Union Minister for Industry, External Affairs, Finance and Commerce. Tiwari is nominated to the Congress Working Committee in 1993 and later made the President of Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee in 1994.
