Hyderabad, August 19, 2007

CITU will hold an all India convention on August in New Delhi to discuss the agrarian and industrial crises and bring pressure on the Centre to take up remedial measures. Speaking to media on Saturday, CITU All India general secretary and former MP Jibon Roy said that the country was now facing crisis in both agricultural and industry. He said that the exports reduced by 1.6 percent annually and the imports increased to flood domestic market.

He further said that during the last three decades, the contribution of agriculture to the GDP had come down by half. Agricultural crisis led to crisis in small scale industries, triggering migration from rural to Urban areas. He added that there were 23 billion tonnes of iron ore reserves in India which was rated third or fourth in the world in the category, it was not able to supply iron ore to the steel sector.

He further commented that the Andhra Pradesh Government was encouraging steel industry in private sector like Brahmani and demanded that the government change its policies in agriculture production and industrial sectors.
