TRS President KCR plans Bus yatra

To mobilize public support for the demand to increase capacity of SRSP

Hyderabad, August 16, 2007

The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) president K Chandrasekhara Rao will undertake a bus yatra in Karimnagar, Warangal and Nalgonda districts to moralize public support for its demand to increase the capacity of Kakatiya Canal of Sri Ram Sagar Project (SRSP). According to reliable sources, the bus yatra will commence a SRSP project and conclude at Nadigudem in Nalgonda district. However, the dates of the yatra are yet to be finalized.

Speaking to media on Thursday, he charged the government of deceiving the people of Telangana region on irrigation. The Kakatiya can was planned for 9,000 cusecs capacity but was designed to discharge only 7,500 cusecs. He condemned the claim of the Government that around 15 lakh acres would get irrigation water under Kakatiya canal, how it is possible with a canal having capacity of 7,500 cusecs.

He demanded that the Government should increase the capacity of Kakatiya canal by heightening the bunds of the canal. The width of the canal should be increased to 220 ft and the depth to 25ft. He also demanded the government to construct two balancing reservoirs one each in Warangal and Nalgonda on Kakatiya canal.
