Transport Department conceded 14 demands

Hyderabad, August 14, 2007

The AP Lorry Owners' Association has decided to call of their indefinite strike from the midnight of Tuesday following fruitful discussions with the Transport department that conceded 14 demands. Its main demand to release a transport vehicle involved in an accident at the police station and not in the court as proposed was conceded.

The Transport Commissioner Ajay Mira, Additional Commissioner T Krishna Reddy and Joint Commissioner CLN Gandhi took part in the discussions. The government agreed to the five demands of the Transport Owners. They said that the other demands would be referred to the Government for favorable consideration.

The State Government has also agreed to provide tax remission of a transport vehicle during its seizure by a court or if it was under major repair after an accident. Here would be no fixing of speed governors for lorries and no tax would be collected by the transport department. The president Gopal Naidu and general secretary Eswarara Rao and other office bearers participated in the discussions.
