Hyderabad, August 14, 2007

The Andhra Pradesh State Kapunadu on Tuesday served an ultimatum to the State Government to include Kapu, Telaga, Balija and Ontari communities among the Backward Casts by December 2008 failing which they would launch State wide agitation.

They demanded for inclusion of other sub castes in the list of BCs has been pending for a long time and as of now, Munnuru Kapus and Toorpu Kapus are considered as BCs. Speaking to media, Kapunadu State president P Venkateswara Rao said the Congress party had assured during the Assembly elections of suitable measures but went back on its promise after it came to power.

These four sub-castes were treated as BCs when Damodara Sanjeevaiah was the Chief Minister but taken off the list during the tenure of Neelam Sanjeeva Reddy's tenure. The Kapunadu State president said that hey were expecting a positive action by the State Government after BC commission submitted its report in November this year. If the government fails to concede their demands, they would organize Chaianya Yatras in the State from Sankranti.
