EMRI and HMRI Arogya Sri to come under one roof

Hyderabad, August 14, 2007

The State Government is launching Rajiv Arogya Sri scheme on August 15 by bringing Arogya Sri, EMRI and HMRI services under one roof. Former President APJ Abdul Kalam will launch the scheme at a function on Wednesday.

The three schemes are running independently till now. While Arogya Sri was being run solely by the government, EMRI and HMRI facilities are being run with the support of Satyam Foundation. While EMRI continues to run the emergency ambulance service on telephone no.108, HMRI will function on 104, a new toll free number. Speaking to media, the Chief Minister, Dr.YS Rajasekhara Reddy, Finance Minister, K Rosaiah said that Rajiv Arogya Sri would be a public private partnership scheme. They said that the government will bear 95 percent of the expenditure while the rest by Satyam Foundation.

The Chief Executive Officer of Satyam Foundation Venkat said that the EMRI would soon have 122 ambulances in addition to the 380 in operation across the State. He said that the EMRI has so far saved 14,000 lives.
