Transport workers extended support to lorry bandh

Hyderabad, August 12, 2007

The Andhra Pradesh Private Motor Transport Workers Federation on Sunday extended support to the Lorry Owners Association's Lorry bandh from August 14, 2007. The Federation claimed that the vehicle owners and drivers cannot be held responsible for road accidents. Instead, the Government should be blamed for these accidents as thee is no control on the sale of liquor and entry of new vehicles in the State.

The Association also charged that the road widening works and road repairs are not taken up seriously and there are many reasons for road accidents. They said that instead of helping the transport sector, the State Government is resorting to anti-labour policies.

The Government should withdraw their decision to punish the vehicle owners owners and drivers by holding them responsible for the accidents that happen on the overcrowded roads in the State. The Federation called upon the drivers of auto rickshaws, tractors and tankers to participate in the bandh according to a press release issued.
