Hyderabad, August 12, 2007

Except for the Telugu Desam Party, the All-Party Fact Finding Committee who visited the Obulapuram mines in Anantapur district expressed their satisfaction over mining operations and felt that there was nothing illegal about it. The 13 member team visited the mines amidst tight security. The team was appraised of all the activities in the mines by the officials and was clarified their doubts.

All members of the Fact Finding Committee except TDP members, especially N Janardhana Reddy, were satisfied by the explanation and cooperation of the officials and told the media that all was well and that they have not seen any illegal mining operations. Speaking on the occasion, Janardhana Reddy said that he will not leave the mines until he is given all the 24 files he had asked for which the officials have failed. Janardhana Reddy observes that the permission for mining operation was actually given for Compartment Number 695 while the mining activity is being done elsewhere.

The team, which had spent three and half hours in the mines held discussions with the officials of the Income Tax and other departments before returning to district headquarters where its final opinion was be made public.
