Teacher Unions continue agitation
Hyderabad, April 8, 2007Spot Valuation of the Andhra Pradesh Secondary School Certificate (AP SSC) was severely hit after teachers of various teacher unions did not attend to spot valuation duties and began agitating outside the spot valuation centres demanding the Government to take up their demands.
As many as 26,000 teachers did not attend to spot valuation. 3500 teachers were believed to have attended the valuation work as per S. Balasubramanyam, Director of School Education. The Government which though of taking alternative steps could only get few handful teachers, many of them either retired, teachers from private schools or the little experienced education volunteers.
President of the Progressive Recognized Teachers (PRT) P. Venkat Reddy was arrested in Nizamabad. Members of the Joint Action Committee of Teachers Organizations (JACTO) prevented any one from attending the spot valuation. The teachers unions were agitation asking the Government to take up their demands, particularly in regard to a unified service rule.
