Hyderabad, April 29, 2007

The officials of the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials who have arrested Rural SP JG Murali was produced before the Principal Special Judge for SPE and ACB cases, Hyderabad. The Judge remanded Murali to judicial custody for 14 days. Murali was later sent to Cherlapally Central Prison. According to sources, the officials of ACB stumbled on evidence suggesting a strong nexus with an MLA belonging to the ruling party and a Revenue Divisional Officer (RDO). It is alleged to Murali might have relationships with them in either settling land disputes or forcibly occupying lands. The officials are trying to enlarge the scope of IPC sections under which Murali can be charged.

Contrary to preliminary valuation of Murali's properties that was valued to Rs. 65 lakhs, sources said that the documents seized indicated that it may run into crores. His daughter who was married recently is now residing in UK. Murali who have visited his daughter recently, the officials of ACB are suspecting that some key documents pertaining to his ill gotten property may have been left with her daughter.

The officials claim that most of the properties are in the names of binamy. The MLA and RDO along with Murali are said to have forcibly occupied several acres of land belong to private persons and have good established connections. Murali owns a 20 acre mango orchard on the outskirts of Medak district and his investments in Bangalore, Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam may run into crores. Officials would be opening a bank locker of Murali in a bank in Yousufguda on Monday. Meanwhile, Murali speaking to media said that all the allegations are false and the figures are exaggerated.
