TRS MLA K. Lingaiah surrenders

Alleged involved in passport case

Hyderabad, April 27, 2007

The Hyderabad Police have registered a case on the rebel TRS MLA Kasipeta Lingaiah for his alleged involvement in human trafficking scandal. The MLA surrendered before the Nampally Criminal Court on Friday. In a miraculous development, the police also picked up one Prakash Reddy who reportedly worked for Rasheed, the travel agent who arranged visas for tainted Gujarat MP Babubhai Katara.

The Hyderabad Police Commissioner, Balwinder Singh said that Reddy was not arrested but was questioned as a part of investigation to know the whereabouts of Rasheed and later let him off. The Eighth Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate remanded Lingaiah in judicial custody till May 11. The Central Crime Station (CCS) has registered a case against him for allegedly obtaining a passport on fake identify for a Gujarati woman.

Speaking to reporters before being taken to Chanchalguda central prison, he said that the TRS Party President K. Chandrasekhara Rao was involved in human trafficking case and he has sent several persons abroad by illegal means. He further added that many IAS and IPS officers and some senior most journalists were involved in the racket. Meanwhile, he admitted that he approached Rasheed, a broker for a passport for his wife as he failed to get it despite his visits to Passport office several times. Rasheed removed his wife's photograph and affixed the photo of some other woman using computer aided technology. The Delhi Crime Branch police officials said that the main accused Rajendra Kumar Gampa had not revealed any names. According to available sources, the Intelligence Bureau had submitted a detailed report on the Andhra Pradesh Angle to the episode to the Union Home Ministry a few day ago.
