Court directs Greater Hyderabad authorities to compensate dog bite victims

Asks Chief Veterinary Officer to constitute committee

Hyderabad, April 27, 2007

Hyderabadis today have a new kind of problem - the menace of stray dogs. While the Municipal authorities are doing their best, the ever increasing number of dog bits in the twin cities has become a big problem for the locale.

The Andhra Pradesh High Court has dealt with a petition arising based on a fax message of a BSNL employee from Musheerabad MA Satyanarayana Rao. The petitioner has complained on the inability of the Municipal authorities in controlling the stray dog menace. The High Court directed the Greater Hyderabad municipal authorities to compensate the dog bite victims. The Municipal authorities now have to ensure that the dog bite victims are given proper medical treatment apart from bearing all the medical expenditure. The dog victims will also be given Rs. 500 within two weeks of time.

The High Court also directed the Chief Veterinary Officer to form committee with officers to ensure that the victims are provided treatment.
