Government to issue an ordinance soon

Hyderabad, April 27, 2007

The Andhra Pradesh Government will soon issue an ordinance to ban propagation of other religions at Tirumala in view of growing criticism over propagation of other religions. The State Cabinet that met on Friday approve a Draft Ordinance which will be sent to Governor Rameshwar Thakur for his approval.

Speaking to media, the Minister for Information Anam Ramnarayana Reddy said once this ordinance is issued, such illegal activity will attract three to five years imprisonment an a fine of Rs. 5000 or both. He said that it has decided to prohibit propagation of other religions in certain notified places of worship belonging to any particular religion to ensure that the sentiments of that religious group are not hurt and that public order is not disturbed.

The Government will notify the areas which falls under the jurisdiction of Tirumala Tirupati Devastanams (TTD) on the Seven hills, he asserted stating that there was deliberate misinformation campaign on the issue.
