Senior members to participate in the hunger strike
Hyderabad, April 23, 2007Former BJP State President N. Indrasena Reddy along with nine senior leaders began hunger strike on Monday against the Babli project in Maharashtra and promised to continue the fast till the work at the project site was stopped. Speaking at a meeting at the camp in front of the BJP State headquarters after denied permission from Police authorities for the same to take up in an open area, Indrasena Reddy said that the agitation would be taken to its logical end.
He said that he has taken the step in view of the difficulties faced by the farmers in Telangana districts would face after commissioning of the project. He said that the farmers had high hopes of irrigation of their lands under the next phase of Sriramsagar Project but the inflows into the project was threatened by Babli project.
Former BJP president Bandaru Lakshman said that Maharashtra government was taking up the project illegally. Otherwise, there was no reason why it should prohibit visits to the project site by political leaders. Meanwhile, the BJP president Bandaru Dattatreya charged the failure of the Chief Minister to stall the Babli project.
