Barely a day after Chief Minister, Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy said that the Congress was prepared to go it alone in the next elections, APCC President D Srinivas, on his part, came up with a statement that the door of the party are always open to all opposition parties except the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and the Bharateeya Janatha Party (BJP).

State Congress calls for Telangana Bandh on April 21

To protest against humiliating comments by Maharashtra CM

Hyderabad, April 19, 2007

The State Congress on Thursday called for bandh in five Telangana districts on April 21 to protest against the humiliating remarks made by the Chief Minister of Maharashtra Vilas Rao Deshmukh against the people of Andhra Pradesh.

The bandh would be observed in Nizamabad, Karimnagar, Adilabad, Warangal and Nalgonda districts after a meeting held with the leaders from Telangana. The Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee president K. Keshava Rao announced the same on Thursday.

APCC president called an emergency meeting of the party leaders to discuss the issue following the initiative taken by the Telugu Desam Party. He presided over the meeting which was attended by Minister for Rural Development D. Srinivas, Major Irrigation Minister Ponnala Lakshmaiah, Minister for Energy Mohd Shabbier Ali, MPs G. Venkata Swamy, V. Hanumanta Rao, MLAs.
