Dwaraka Peeth seer opposes Sethu Samudram project

Keen for Dharma Sabha in Delhi

Hyderabad, April 17, 2007

Shankaracharya of Dwaraka Peeth Swamy Sri Swarupananda has said that he will move to the Apex Court if the Government does not stop work on the Sethusamudram Shipping Canal Project. At a press conference on Tuesday, he said that a dharma sabha would be organized at the Ram Leela grounds in New Delhi on May 13 against the project in which a large number of sadhus, saints and some Shankaracharyas would participate.

He rejected the contention that the existence of Ram Sethu was a myth. Even satellite imagery compiled by NASA had proved the existence of such a structure under the water. Any attempt to damage the centuries old structure would be disastrous to the religious feelings of Hindus, he said.
