Government issues GO
Hyderabad, April 16, 2007The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) incorporating a dozen municipalities and eight villages has come into being on Monday. It coves 625.52sq.kms and will have a population of about 67 lakh.
The Minister for Information Mohd Ali Shabbir told to the media releasing the notification issued by the Municipal Administration and Urban Development constituting GHMC, that the Government has taken up various development activities costing Rs. 28,000 crore to ensure uniformity in providing civic amenities, infrastructure and enforcement. He said that the on going developmental activities include Rs. 5,000 crore on ORR, integrated sewerage infrastructure, Metro Rail, Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, package for Old City and many more projects are also underway.
The Principal Secretary (Municipal Administration) SP Singh said that senior IAS officer CVSK Sarma will be the Chief Commissioner of the GHMC, the Commissioner of MCH Sanjay Jaju will assist him and a notification re designating Jaju will be issued soon. He said the erstwhile areas falling within all all the municipalities may be treated as administrative zones.
