TDP to organize rallies on beedi mark row

Rallies in mandal and divisional headquarters on April 17

Hyderabad, April 14, 2007

Addressing at a press conference on Saturday, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) President N Chandrababu Naidu said that the party will organize rallies in mandal and divisional headquarters in North Telangana on April 17 to oppose the Centre's move to make it mandatory for Beedi companies to print Skull and Bone danger mark on beedi bundles.

He said that more than 7.5 lakh families dependent on the beedi industry would be deprived of livelihood, if the mark was made mandatory from June this year. He said that the State Government which had promised to redress the problem after Karimnagar by election had not acted so far.

He further added that he would participate in a huge rally in Metpally town on April 18 and also address a public meeting of beedi workers. The party will also organize a relay fast at Sriramsgar Project on April 25 against the Babli Project.
