Hyderabad, April 14, 2007The Minister for Home K Jana Reddy said that the State Government proposed to open at least one fire station in each Assembly constituency in the state. Speaking at the inaugural function of the Fire Service Week Celebrations and Home Guards Training Institute at Vattinagulapalli village of Ranga Reddy district on Saturday, he stressed the need for enhanced fire safety measures in view of stepped up construction activity in urban areas, transportation of hazardous material and proliferation of modern business houses, industries and go downs.
The Home Minister said that the State Government has requested the Central Government to sanction funds to a tune of Rs. 100 crores so that the State can take up modernization of fire and emergency service.
Director General of Fire and Emergency Services AK Khan said that the Government renamed the Fire Services Department as Fire and Emergency Services Department in view of its changed role. According to him, the Department was now discharging its functions as a first responder not only in fire accidents but other emergencies like floods, cyclones, earthquakes and train accidents.
