Election Commission finds irregularities
Hyderabad, April 13, 2007The Election Commission, based on the reports submitted by the Chief Electoral Officers of Tamilnadu and Karnataka Naresh Gupta and R. Rameseshan respectively found that some irregularities were committed in the elections to the Legislative Council from the Local Authorities Constituencies held on March 17. The Commission ordered re-poll in 52 booths.
The team that was deputed to inquire into the complaints that some ministers and Congress Party leaders resorted to open balloting in the polling booths. The date of the re-poll will be announced in a couple of days according to reliable sources.
The Election Commission has identified eight districts where it found that Congress leaders had resorted to open voting and accompanied voters into the booths.
