Noted writer Vasireddy Sitadevi passes away

Sitadevi was five time winner of the AP Sahitya Academy Award

Hyderabad, April 13, 2007

Well known writer Vasireddy Sita Devi died at a private hospital in Secunderabad on Friday. She was hospitalized for nearly 20 days ago and is surviving on ventilator ever since her condition worsened.

She is survived by a brother Narayana Rao. Her funeral will be performed at Bansilalpet electric crematorium on Saturday. Sitadevi is a five-time winner of the Andhra Pradesh Sahitya Academy Award. She never flinched from her duty-of telling the world that women could be liberate themselves easily in life than men who remain victims of their own egos. She was known as a progressive writer, a rebel and feminist.

In all 50 novels and anthologies of short stories, she portrayed men as midgets in stature while the women characters rise from the ordinary to touch Himalayan heights. Her novel 'Matti Manishi' was translated into 14 languages by the National Book Trust (NBT). Several prominent personalities expressed condolences on her death.
