Clashes at the project site
Vijayanagaram, September 9, 2006The Chief Minister Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy is scheduled to inaugurate the Peddagadda reservoir on Sunday, displaced persons of the project had a clash with the police demanding compensation to them before the water was released. During the clashes, five persons including two police personnel were injured even as the Left parties threatened to obstruct the inaugural function.
Under the aegis the Left Parties a few hundred agitators gathered at the project site and tried to remove the dias being erected. Police intervened only to be stoned by the agitators. The police caned the agitators in which three persons suffered serious injuries. The displaced persons alleged that the rehabilitation package was not extended to them as assured by the Government and the Minister for Marketing B Satyanarayana and officials are trying to pacify the situation to enable the Chief Minister to inaugurate the function.
