TNUS to be different from the existing teachers' unions

Hyderabad, September 5, 2006

The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) President N Chandrababu Naidu speaking on the occasion of Teachers' Day celebrations organized by the NTR Memorial Trust announced the formation of Telugu Nadu Upadhyaya Sangham (TNUS) as a frontal organization of the party to provide a platform to the teachers.

He said a meeting would be held on September 24 when teachers from all over the State will formulate the structure and lay down programmes of TNUS. He said that teachers' need to play a bigger role in this knowledge society but should focus on enabling the students to face competition in the post-globalization era.

He recalled that during TDP rule, he had given priority to education, literacy and increasing number of professional colleges. He charged the Government with neglecting education and said it was the responsibility of the Government to provide good quality education to the poor and weaker sections. He felicitated 13 best teachers including former Vice Chancellor of Dravidian University Ravvva Sri Hari and Pasana Chinnappa of Osmania University.
