Centre sanctions 80000 houses for Below Poverty Line families

These houses will cost Rs.1.3 lakh each

Hyderabad, September 30, 2006

The Union Government has sanctioned 80,000 houses to the families of below poverty line (BPL) living in Hyderabad, Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam. 50,000 houses for Hyderabad and 15,000 houses each in Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam to be constructed under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM).

These houses will cost Rs.1.3 lakh each. This is in addition to 66,000 houses already sanctioned. The Chief Minister, Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy speaking to reporters said that this would reduce the housing problem in these cities. The Union Government also sanctioned Rs.1,300 crore for infrastructure development under JNNURM.
