MLAs staged a dharna in front of the DGP's office
Hyderabad, September 28, 2006The tight security provided to the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) president N.Chandra Babu Naidu was breached when an unidentified person drove a car at high speed and rammed through the barricades at his jubilee Hills residence on Tuesday night. The MLAs staged a dharna in front of the DGP's office on Thursday and were arrested by the police and were released later.
The MLAs alleged that they were denied entry to the DGP's office when all they wanted was to appeal to his to provide adequate security in view of the recent incident. They said that the latest incident should not have happened had the security for Chandrababu Naidu who enjoys Z plus security cover was not scaled down. The Home Minister, K Jana Reddy said an enquiry had been ordered into the security breach. The Home Minister said that Chandrababu Naidu was the best protected person in the State with 154 uniformed men including 30 National Security Guards and eight vehicles at his disposal even after withdrawing 32 guards.
Speaking to media, he said that the guards were withdrawn only on the recommendations of the Security Review Committee headed by Additional Director General of Police (Intelligence). He further said that protection to Chandrababu Naidu is the responsibility of the Government.
