Chief Minister orders CBI probe into ORR issue

No time frame fixed for the inquiry

With just a day after the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) moved to the Andhra Pradesh High Court seeking a CBI inquiry into the matter in which the alignment of the ORR was changed several times to benefit the kit and kin of the Chief Minister and mounting charges on the acquisition of land issue on the controversial Outer Ring Road (ORR), the Chief Minister, Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy ordered a CBI inquiry alongside a simultaneously inquiry by a retired Judge of AP High Court was ordered.

Crux of the opposition charge was that notices for acquisition of lands for the ORR were issued to the farmers and others, who were then compelled to sell their properties at a thruway prices that were purchased by the kith and kin of the Government and later the acquisition notices were withdrawn. This apart, alignment of the ORR was also changed by Congress leaders are close to the proposed growth corridor.

Speaking at a press conference, the Chief Minister said that inquiry to cover all lands acquired for the ORR for the last five to six years ever since the project originally conceived by the previous Telugu Desam party Government. No time frame was fixed for completion of the inquiry but said that that it will be completed as early as possible. The Chief Minister said that the Government has not done any thing wrong in order to benefit his party men and there is no truth in the opposition parties charge. Hence, he ordered for the inquiry.
