Assures support for AKA

Hyderabad, September 22, 2006

The Chief Minister Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy laid the foundation stone for the Aga Khan Academy (AKA), an educational institution coming up on a 100 acre campus in Raviryal village in Maheswaram mandal near Ranga Reddy district. Based on the International Baccalaureate (IB) system, the academic programme would prepare students for the widely respected IB Degrees and admission to the best of University programs in India and abroad. It would held them to join a community of nearly 1800 schools globally.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister assured all help from the State Government to AKA in its endeavor and praised the AKDN for its social work, referring specifically to its post tsunami intervention. He said that the Government had introduced Jawahar Knowledge Centres in 60 engineering and 30 degree colleges apart from the gurukulams started in six districts for advanced training in knowledge areas. The director of AKA Salim Bhatia said that the Academy's development including professional development of teachers would begin by late 2008 and classes begin for the academic year 2009-2010.He said that the vision was to have 10 such campus across South and Central Asia, East Africa and the Middle East in ten years.
