Power cut for domestic sector reduced to two hours

Demand in rural areas comes down

Hyderabad, September 15, 2006

With satisfactory rains coming up and water levels of some of the top reservoirs reaching their maximum levels, the Government decided to reduce the power cut for the domestic sector from 6 hours to 2 hours. The power projects at Srisailam is receiving good water inflows however Energy Minister Mohd Ali Shabbir and AP Transco CMD Rachel Chatterjee says power generation at the Srisailam project would not be hiked in order to preserve water instead of leaving it to the sea.

Meanwhile protests by farmers and the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and Telangana Rastra Samithi (TRS) continued their protest for power for the agriculture sector.
