Violence in several areas of the state

Hyderabad, September 11, 2006

The angry farmers in several parts of the State took to the streets and resorted to violence on Monday complaining about irregular and inadequate power supply. These protects came barely a few days after the Government announced to impose power cut in the urban areas barring Hyderabad, Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam to enable to supply power to the farmers. The Chief Minister Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy reiterated this decision at Rajahmundry on Monday. But the farmers say that they were not getting power supply for seven hours as promised.

The agitating farmers resorted to violence in several areas demanding non stop power supply for nine hours to save the withering crops. At Chevella in Ranga Reddy district, they attacked a sub station and destroyed a transformer and in Khammam district, farmers went on rampage in the Manchukonda sub station damaging furniture. Similar attacks were also reported from several parts of the State.
