APCC president Keshava Rao says at Gandhi Bhavan

Hyderabad, October 27, 2006

The APCC president K. Keshava Rao speaking at a gathering at Gandhi Bhavan said on Friday that separate Telangana is possible only under Congress rule. In another move, former president of APCO V Sriramulu and his followers joined the Congress Party. Keshava Rao urged the Congress Party activists and leaders to campaign in favour of the Telangana sentiment in the upcoming by elections. The leaders would launch door to door campaign to impress upon the people that the AICC president Sonia Gandhi was not opposed to separate statehood but was only taking time to seek a consensus on the issue.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister, Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy said that creation of separate Telangana would give momentum to similar demands from other regions in the country resulting Ms. Gandhi needed time to consider the issue in its entirety before taking a decision. However, in tune with the aspirations of the people, the State Government was committed to developing all backward regions of the State.
