Hyderabad, October 26, 2006

The Prime Minister, Man Mohan Singh has laid foundation for the four laning of the stretch of Nagpur Hyderabad and Hyderabad - Bangalore Highway as part of fur laning of North-South corridor taken up by the National highway Development Project.

Addressing a huge gathering he said the progress achieved in road, irrigation and power sectors has generated lakhs of jobs. They would further boost the agricultural production, industrial growth and completely change the prospects for the country after their completion. He said the four laning of the North-South corridor will make movement of vehicular easy and change the fortunes of the region. The agricultural produce of South Region will find new markets and there will be an increase in the industrial growth and also the employment potential. He referred that in Andhra Pradesh nearly 2500 km of national highways were being four laned and work on 1200 km was already completed.

During the speech, the Chief Minister, Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy thanked the Prime Minister for the Rs.9600 crore special package to the State, he said that the agricultural labourers in the district were being provided 100 days in a year under the National Rural Employment Guarantee scheme. The Prime Minister hailed the efforts of the Chief Minister and termed him the 'Sir Arthur Cotton of Andhra Pradesh'
