Hyderabad, October 22, 2006The State Government has requested the Centre to provide Rs.150 crore either as a grant or as a soft loan for creating infrastructure facilities under the Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission to be utilized in the proposed Petroleum, Chemicals and Petrochemicals Investment Region (PCPIR) between Kakinada and Visakhapatnam. Though the Centre has identified Visakhapatnam only as one of the seven places for setting up of mega PCPIRs in the country, the State Government is planning to declare the entire 120 km coastal corridor between Kakinada and Visakhapatnam as PCPIR in view of more than one petrochemical complex coming up between them.
It requires a world class infrastructure like national highways, railway connectivity and airport development which needs a huge budget. The State Government has acquired 6000 acres and has initiated process to acquire the remaining land for the mega project for which the Central Government has announced several incentives.
For waste management, the Ramky group, developers of the Jawaharlal Nehru Pharma city on 2120 acres near the PCPIR site, is setting up a state of the art Common Effluent Treatment Plant to teat effluents before disposal through a marine out fall to sea. The HPCL is proposing to expand their project with a total investment of Rs.23,000 crore and they would like to promote PCIPR in Andhra Pradesh.
