Medical seats to be increased by 450

Three new medical colleges to be setup

Hyderabad, October 2, 2006

With the new three medical colleges in Srikakulam, Adilabad and Prakasam districts to come up, the number of medical seats in the State will go up by 450 resulting an increase of medical colleges to 14 and the seats. According to an estimate, the new medical colleges will require a budget of Rs.125 crores each Rs. 80 crores infrastructure and Rs.45 crores for equipment apart from one hundred acres of land for each medical college.

The Minister for Health K Rosaiah said that the expenditure is high, the said that the need to correct the regional imbalances and provide professional courses in the backward areas. New engineering colleges of Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University to be located at Karimnagar and Vizianagaram are likely to provide 1000 seats taking the number of seats to 99,000.
