CM announces new insurance scheme for the poor
Hyderabad, October 17, 2006The Asian Institute of Gastroenterology (AIG) has launched a rural health project to take modern medicare free to all mandals in three years at a cost of Rs.25 crores. Four mobile rural gastroenterology hospitals have been set up under the project launched by AIG and Asian Health Care Foundation with the help of donations from G Pulla Reddy.
Inaugurating the project on Tuesday, the Chief Minister Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy said that the advanced medicare was out of reach of those living in rural areas. He announced a health insurance scheme for the poor by the State and Central Governments covering all major ailments. He said the budget for the health department is low urged the private players to supplement the Government efforts in bringing latest treatment to the common persons.
The AIG Director D Nageshwar Reddy speaking to media said that prevalence of hepatitis B among rural people ranged from five to ten percent and nearly seventy percent were harboring H.pylori, a bacterium which can cause ulcers and gastric cancer. He said that complicated cases that requires surgeries will be done free of cost at AIG.
