Landmine devices seized

It consist of two Aluminium and indalium containers

Vijayawada, October 17, 2006

In another move, the Vijayawada police on Tuesday uncovered 50 pressure devices used to explode landmines from the scrap in the Lost Property Depot of the Kranti Transport Company. The officials of City Police and Special Investigation Team (SIT) on Tuesday seized them and send them to Patamata Police station to be later sent to the AP Forensic Laboratory in Hyderabad.

The Assistant Commissioner of Police (Central) M Satyanarayana Rao said that the landmines are deadly and could have devastating effect. The landmines consist of two Aluminium and indalium containers into which the explosives like ammonium nitrate and RDX could be stuffed and could be triggered by contact.

According to him, the consignment was booked from Nellore to Vijayawada on May 8 by one K Satyanarayana and was re directed in the name of one Ranga Swamy to Komaravolu in Markapur sub division of Prakasam district on May 26. As no one has claimed about the consignment, in Markapur, it was shifted to Lost Property Depot. In Chirala, the police conducted raids on Kranti Transport Company and recovered four consignments of aluminimum sheets without way bills.
