State Government miffed with Soli Sorabjee
Hyderabad, October 16, 2006A meeting held under the Chairmanship of the Chief Minister, the State Cabinet is understood to have discussed the clemency granted to Gouru Venkata Reddy and the comments of the Former Attorney General Soli Sorbjee's recent comments was discussed in length.
It is understood that the Cabinet is considering the possibility of lodging a complaint against the jurist either with the Apex Court or with the President of India. The Cabinet in the meeting observed that the Apex Court has made any adverse remarks either on the Chief Minister or against the Government but only pointed out some procedural lapses.
The Ministers found fault with the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) President N Chandrababu Naidu for demanding resignation of the Chief Minister and also objected the remarks of the former Attorney General. A senior Minister in the meeting has commented that the Government has acted on the basis of reports of the Kurnool District Collector and Superintendent of Police and the matter which was referred to the legal department for advise and only after that the same was sent to the Governor. Before taking up the matter with Apex Court or President, the Cabinet has decided to seek the opinion of Advocate General.
