Hyderabad, October 15, 2006

The new political party Lok Satta held its first public meeting after party formation on Sunday. Addressing the gathering the Lok Satta coordinator Jayaprakash Narayan warned the politicians and officials indulging in corrupt practices to mend their way, else they have to face stringent action in the coming days. He said not only would the properties of those indulging in corrupt practices be attached but they would also end up in jails.

He cited an instance of an irrigation project in Rayalaseema whose estimates were quote to Rs.220 crores while the works were sub contracted for a meager Rs.67 crores. He said that the party would ensure that the governance at local level would be strengthened so as to avoid the interference of political parties in their affair. The party would launch a massive outreach campaign which is to be held between November 15 and December 31 was aimed at getting information about the quality of services offered to people especially in health, education and other key areas.
