Hyderabad, October 12, 2006The Chief Minister, Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy after visiting the old city announced on Thursday a Rs. 2000 crore development package for the old city containing a slew measures like underground drainage system, sewerage net work, houses for 8000 poor people, parks and round the clock drinking water. Speaking to media, he said that the historic Charminar and the old city was neglected for many years. He said that more funds would be allotted in case of need in the next coming years. The Chief Minister was accompanied by MIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi and MLA Syed Pasha Quadri.
As a permanent measure, he said that Rs. 800 crore underground drainage and sewage system would be completed in five years time. Another Rs.100 crores scheme for supplying of drinking water would be operational in a couple of years and Rs.120 crore project for development of drains. The Road widening from Charminar to Falaknama launched 24 years back would be completed in the next six months in addition to another stretch of 25 km. The 'Save Musi' campaign' would be expedited, Charminar pedestrianisation project completed soon. He announced several developmental measures for the old city.
