Three year saga comes to an end
Hyderabad, November 21, 2006
The State Government on Tuesday resumed 400 acres of land on the outskirts of the city that was allotted to IMG Bharata by the Telugu Desam Party Government. The Municipal authorities of Serilingampally put up a board on the land stating that the land belonged to the State Government and trespassers will be prosecuted. In order to facilitate, the Governor Rameshwar Thakur issued an ordinance cancelling the registration of the land done by the earlier government in the name of the company resulting the three years old saga came to an end. It may be recalled that Telugu Desam Party (TDP) government alloted 400 acres of land to IMB Bharata at Rs.50,000 per acre for setting up sports facility. Another 450 acres of land has been alloted in Rangareddy district. The Government has registered the 400 acres of land and rest was not registered.
After the Congress came to power, the present government constituted a Group of Ministers committee to review all the land allotments done by the earlier government. The GoM, in its report said that the allotment was illegal as the company was extended undue favour by the previous government. The Committee also advised the company to pay the market value if it really wanted to pursue with the project.
IMG Bharata, instead said that it will not hesitate to approach the court if the government cancelled the deal. Undeterred, the Cabinet recommended that the land should be resumed. Within hours of the Ordinance was issued, the revenue officials took possession of the land.
