Driver with cash and cricket kits held in Karimnagar
Hyderabad, November 21, 2006
The Chief Electoral Officer, V. Bhaskar on Tuesday said that action would be taken under the election laws against drivers of the van that was carrying cash and cricket kits allegedly for distribution by Congress leaders to voters in Karimnagar. He said that this act amounts to violation of the election code and therefore was liable to punishment.
Speaking to reporters after receiving a spate of complaints from political parties against the electoral malpractice, he had called a detailed report from the Karimnagar District Collector. He commented that he did not know if K. Sudhakar Rao, member of State Information Commission was involved as alleged and said that the matter is equally important to the Election Commission.
