Agitates against printing Skull and Cross bones on wrappers
Hyderabad, November 20, 2006
Beedi manufacturing units throughout the country on Monday were locked and the workers took part in huge procession in Karimnagar town in protest against the Centre's decision to make it mandatory for beedi manufacturers to print the 'skull' and cross bones' sign on beedi wrappers.
The health warning will come into force from February next. The Centre wants 50 percent space on the wrappers to be allotted to the statutory warning while the State Government wants the Centre to reduce it to 20 percent.
